The Westside Science Club (WSSC) was founded in 2008 in Venice, CA by Ben Dickow. Since then, Science Club has been meeting every other Saturday to provide fun informal science learning to the young people in the community. The WSSC Venice Chapter was established in partnership with the Venice Community Housing Corporation (VCHC), a non-profit affordable housing organization based in Venice, California. The Club currently meets in one of VCHC’s affordable housing units, Tabor Courts, drawing Club participants from the youth that live in that building and another VCHC site. From 2012-2014, volunteers from Caltech developed lessons for WSSC Venice and facilitated lessons at Tabor Courts with Ben and volunteers from local Wildwood High School. These lessons are archived at the Center for Advancement of Informal Science Learning’s website.
